Canals protest: Lawyers end sit-in after talks; traffic resumes at Babarloi bypass

The protest sit-in at Khairpur’s Babarloi bypass, held over the issue of controversial canals being drawn from the Indus River, was called off after successful negotiations between protesting lawyers and representatives of the Sindh government. Traffic, blocked for the past 12 days, has now started to resume.

According to details, a delegation of lawyers held talks with Sindh government officials at the Sukkur High Court Bar, with provincial minister Zia Lanjar among the participants. During the meeting, lawyers demanded the official notification of canal approvals.

Minister Lanjar clarified that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has not yet approved the canal project, which is why no notification has been issued.

Following the assurance, the lawyers announced an end to the protest, terming the progress positive. However, they vowed to continue their peaceful struggle for constitutional and legal demands.
